In the coming weeks, TREAT TB and the Medical Research Council (MRC) continue to move forward with the MDR-TB STREAM study through a series of on-site assessments of laboratory quality and human resource capacity to ensure the successful implementation of the study. Additionally, the team welcomes Jacquie Teera as the STREAM Trial Manager. Ms. Teera will develop new protocols, oversee implementation of the study, and assist with data analysis and other activities as needed.
Jacquie Teera joined the Medical Research Council’s Clinical Trials Unit in May 2010, as the Trial Manager for the multidrug-resistant study, STREAM. STREAM is single-arm, multi-centre study that aims to determine if a standardised regimen that was developed by the Damien Foundation and achieved notable success in Bangladesh in recent years, will have similarly effective results in other settings. In her capacity as Trial Manager, Ms. Teera will be responsible for developing the protocol, overseeing the implementation of the study, and assisting the data analysis among other activities. In addition to her work on the STREAM study, Ms. Teera is also currently completing a Master of Public Health degree with the University of Liverpool. Jacquie graduated from Makerere University, Kampala in October 2001, with a Bachelor’s degree in Science. After a year out travelling and working as a volunteer for CARE International in Uganda, she was employed with CARE as a Project Officer on the Integrated Lake Management Project. In 2005, she began to work with Family Health International on a Phase III HIV clinical trial in Uganda. In 2007, she was part of the African Palliative Care Association (APCA) team that evaluated care and support services provided to HIV patients with funding from PEPFAR. She also participated in a pilot study that explored palliative care service provision to older people in Uganda and Kenya. After moving to the UK she worked at Cancer Research UK’s Drug Development Office on a number of early phase oncology trials. Jacquie has contributed to the publications below: Lakes and Livelihoods: Integrated Co-Management in Uganda PEPFAR Public Health Evaluation – Care and Support Bridging the Gap: Extending palliative care services to older people in two East African countries
